Abt Associates: Bold thinkers driving real-world impact
Thirteen years is a more than a lifetime for software. But a computer program developed by Abt Associates in 2000 still is helping school-based police officers do their jobs more effectively by tracking and mapping school crime and incident data.
The COPS In Schools program was launched by the Department of Justice (DOJ) during the Clinton administration to allow uniformed School Resource Officers (SROs) and non-sworn security personnel to develop relationships with kids in school and prevent crime instead of reacting to it. SROs also allow teachers and school administrators to focus on their core jobs.
