Abt Associates: Bold thinkers driving real-world impact
Abt Associates supported a comprehensive effort by the government of Mali to expand the delivery of high-quality maternal and child health services to rural Malians. The five-year project, funded by USAID, was known as ATN Plus. The project promoted the use of services and changes in health behaviors, such as hand washing and breastfeeding, and seeking proper antenatal, immunizations, and malaria care.
ATN Plus expanded access to and improved maternal and neonatal health, family planning, immunization, nutrition, and malaria services and addressed health systems strengthening and quality assurance issues. The project supported the Ministry of Health at all levels - national, regional, district, and community health centers - to develop and implement policies and update guidance and reference materials for health care providers and others in the health system. ATN Plus also implemented behavior change communication activities to increase the demand for services and identified opportunities for public-private partnerships particularly with civil society that expanded access to health care.
