In Bolivia, Abt Associates is addressing chronic malnutrition and low levels of food security through the USAID-funded Integrated Food Security (IFS) Project. The project works in some of the most remote areas of Bolivia, empowering municipal governments, local organizations, the private sector and communities to find technologically appropriate solutions to environmental, economic, cultural and sociopolitical constraints to achieving food security.
IFS is increasing the availability and production of high-nutrition foods as it promotes improved natural resources management and environmental conservation. Abt focuses on sustainable long-term development with the aim of decreasing malnutrition in 11 municipalities, creating sustainable natural resources management plans for one million hectares and improving the quality of life for 50,000 rural households.
