The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is a 30-year old intermediary organization dedicated to helping community residents transform neighborhoods into healthy and sustainable communities of choice and opportunity. Since 1994, LISC has operated an AmeriCorps program, placing members in local non-profit host sites. AmeriCorps members help develop affordable housing and provide home ownership counseling to first-time homeowners.  LISC contracted with Abt to evaluate the impact of its AmeriCorps program, in particular, the extent to which the program builds host organizations’ capacity. The evaluation measures changes in organization and service capacity as well as the community outcomes that the host organizations achieve due to the members’ contributions. Data from program records, a web survey and telephone interviews are used to document program implementation and quantify the outcomes facilitated by AmeriCorps members.
