CAMBRIDGE, MA — Abt Associates today recognized employees for their outstanding work on topics ranging from social impact to entrepreneurial accomplishment during the company’s annual meeting.
“These awards recognize outstanding work throughout all areas of the company. The employees honored today are very talented professionals whose efforts demonstrate the impact of our work each and every day,” said Abt President and CEO Kathleen Flanagan.
The 2012 award winners are:
The Clark Abt Prize for outstanding social impact was awarded to Allison Muma and Alan White for their work developing and implementing a Five Star Quality Rating System for nursing homes that is used by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The prize is named after the company’s founder, Clark Abt.
Jacob Klerman won the Best Scholarly Article award for his paper with co-author Caroline Danielson “The Transformation of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program,” published in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management.
Dana Hunt, Ryan Kling, Sarah Jalbert, Meg Chapman, and Bill Rhodes won the Daniel Bell Award for their Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring Survey (ADAM). The Daniel Bell Award — in honor of noted sociologist Daniel Bell — is given each year to recognize outstanding social science research carried out at Abt Associates. Bell was a member of Abt Associates’ Board of Directors from 1970 to 1996.
Oommen George won the Local Country National – Technical Excellence Award for designing and implementing an innovative public-private partnership model for tuberculosis case detection and treatment in India.
Dana Abu-Hassan won the Local Country National – Administrative Excellence Award for herprofessional initiative and exemplary performance in the financial management of the Jordan Health Systems Strengthening and Health Systems Strengthening II Projects, as well as for her valuable contributions to company training programs in finance and administration.
Hugh McDonough won the George Michaels Award for Outstanding Entrepreneurial Accomplishment for the successful development and launch of the Client Technology Center, which takes promising project IT solutions and makes them company-wide IT solutions that advance Abt’s work. The award is named for George Michaels, a long-time member of the Board of Directors who was also the company’s first legal counsel.
